Hi everyone,

I have a little question about the catch rate of a pokemon.
So for example I say !catch Elekid:

then I will get this msg:
Code:
[B]18:16 Used 181 great balls[0.0181%], 3 super balls[0.00045%], 3885 ultra balls[0.5%], 245 safari balls[0.0245%] on Elekid.[/B]

so the +0.5% for ultra balls how should I interpret this?
say the base catch rate of an elekid is 0.00010
so because I have so many ultra balls it is now 0.00015?
Is that correct or should I interpret the catching system in a different way?

Note:
I made up the catch percentage of course....

u got 0,5% bonus from UB, so when u throw ub for elekid with that bonus and like ur example says Elekid got 0,0001 catch rate, then u got 0,5001% to catch it

but if I would have 0.5001 catch rate I would have 50% chance to catch elekid. You want to tell me I tried 2000 times with 50% chance and still failed?

Explain me, why do you think that 0.5% = 50% chance to catch o_O that has totally no sense.

It was a mis interpretation. I kinda removed the % mark haha. so 0.5 in decimal is pretty much the same as 0.50 and in other words 50% chance. However since the 0.5 value was already a percentage. So it was all a mis interpretation. Anyway its a pretty weird system.

If Elekid has 0.01% chance to be caught (1 in 10,000), with this extra 0.5% you now have 0.501% (around 1/200).

its not weird, its just not working

What makes you think it doesn't work? It is just basic probabilistic, if a "X" event has a 0.05% chance of success (1 out of 2000), it doesn't mean that you WILL succeed at 2000 tries, it can take you over 10000 tries and still fail, or it can take you under 10 tries and succeed, also don't forget about extra added value from each ball and extra % by number of tries.

It's pretty balanced actually, the fact that it takes a lot of tries to get one success is what make this a challenge.

no.... you are talking about percentage

extra 0.5% is 0.005 not 0.5

2500 ub give you 0,5% extra ... 0,5%= 0,005 ( 1 / 200 ), can you explain people use more than 5k ub for caught 1 pokemon ?
already i put here a program ( sucess and fail ) caught after extra 0,5%, i tested more 100 times e no one their pass over 1000 ball.

learn about statistics and check the odds of an event with 0,5% chance not happen in 10000 tries, its extremally low (aka 0,000000000000000000017014%)
, way lower than winning million in the lottery. You can say that it may happen to one unlucky person, but saying lucky explain why this happen more than once in such a small community as the PA one is just plain naiveness or even dumbness.
So thats why I know that the system isnt working as it was firstly created.

@Grayfoox
You're wrong, read this:
Hi guys, we have decided to do a small change to boost a bit the catch system, from now on you will gain a small extra chance to catch a pokemon based on how many balls you have used on that pokemon, so it will be:
pokemon base chance * ball multiplier + extra chance (based on balls of that type used on this pokemon)

If you think im lying you can check here : http://www.padventures.org/forum/showthread.php?26513-Catch-system-changes
