Hi guys. We opened this thread in order to discuss about new feature - Pokemons' abilities.
What's that?
Bulbapedia's quote:
that provides a passive effect in battle or in the overworld. Individual Pokémon may have only one Ability at a time. Prior to Generation VI, an Ability could not be changed after a Pokémon was obtained except by Evolution—where the new Ability is determined by the former Ability—and form change.

We would like to invite you to suggest and discuss about the whole system and its mechanics, but at first, let's get clear at some points;
1. Abilities will be added, and there's no chance of resigning for the system.
2. You can suggest changes in;
- Pokemon who can learn x ability - If you think pokemon shouldn't learn some of them, say it. Don't forget to argument it.
- Numbers, such as % of boost or nerf or timing.
- Way the ability will work
3. If you see that some pokemon doesn't learn any ability - suggest another from the list, of course with a proper argument.
4. If you think that some ability shouldn't exist, explain why. Arguments such as "pokemon will be op", "pokemon will be sux" will be ignored. You have to explain why pokemon would become op or why would become bad.
5. If you think that we should add custom abilities;
- give argument
- suggest name
- suggest its mechanics - remember that it shouldn't be out of sense like electric pokemon causing hailstorm.
6. Don't fight in this thread and always use arguments.
7. Discussion and suggestions have to be in english. Posts with foreign language will be deleted.

Ability Rules:
1. One pokemon can have only 1 ability at time.
2. You can restart and receive random ability (in case if pokemon learns more than 1) only once. Your pokemon then will receive random available ability from the list, still with posibility of getting the same one again.
3. If lower form learns some ability, but higher one doesn't, there is very low chance that higher form will get it from the lower one while evolving.
4. Wild Pokemons won't have abilities until they're caught.

If you want to suggest custom abilitydon't use name of already existing onesin bulbapedia
especially those, that are relatedto stats boosts or nerfs-
Also if some pokemon isn't on the list with any abilitya) check firstly on bulapedia, if the pokemon doesn't learn abilities related to stats. If so, then wait for random stats system implementationb) suggest custom ability or already existing one. Remember to argument your choice.

2. You can restart and receive random ability (in case if pokemon learns more than 1) only once. Your pokemon then will receive random available ability from the list, still with posibility of getting the same one again.

About this rule, what do you think of this?

SstD42p.png
The Ability Capsule (Japanese: とくせいカプセル Ability Capsule) is an item introduced in Pokémon X and Y that allows the player to change the Ability of one Pokémon.
It has no effect in battle or if given to a Pokémon to hold. It is consumed after use.
The Ability Capsule can only be used on a Pokémon that belongs to a species that has two standard Abilities. For example, it can be used to change a Pidgey's Ability from Keen Eye to Tangled Feet (or vice versa), but it cannot be used on a Pikachu (whose standard Ability is always Static). It also cannot be used to change a Pokémon to or from its species's Hidden Ability. The Ability Capsule also cannot change a Zygarde's Ability from Aura Break to Power Construct (or vice versa).
The Ability change is retained even if the Pokémon evolves, and the Ability slot provided by the Ability Capsule is maintained if the evolved form has a different standard Ability. For example, a Lillipup which has Pickup evolves into a Herdier with Sand Rush, but if Lillipup's Ability is changed to Vital Spirit with the Ability Capsule it will have Intimidate after evolution.

This capsule could be added to some quest or directly added to cash Shop for a price of 40-50 points (it can vary) with 100% chance of changing the ability, this way it won't be tedious to have 1 pokemon with great TMS but a bad ability

3. If lower form learns some ability, but higher one doesn't, there is very low chance that higher form will get it from the lower one while evolving.

If I understood this rule properly, then back to the same in rule 2, it might make some pokes a bit "useless" since at the end, a lot of those abilities are too useful and "x" pokemons might not have them, it would be something bothersome for people who spent a lot of money on tms, since tms such as reflect/brick/doom desire/feint are not easy to obtain and much less cheap

I think it is a good change and would make pvp more fresh, but for these things to be random would only frustrate a lot the people who already spent money in pokes that at the end might not be so good :D

Sorry for my english c:

The reason of adding abilities is to make pokemons different from each other. It's super boring to see for example Electivire with Reflect and Brick Break, it is very common and makes all electivires being exactly the same.
Abilities would make them a bit different, and pokemon stats would help even more (that's our plan).

I guess most of the abilities can be used in very different way. Wait yet for incoming stats system and you will see that it's not going to make pokemons worse from each other - but different.

What's the point of applying few abilities for X pokemon, if we could add only the best one - but what for? Pokemons still would be the same and ability would just work like an additional attack - the same for everyone. It's out of any sense.
You can find good sides in every ability;)

And btw, if you won't like ability of your pokemon, you can always try to find someone with another ability + the same/similar TMs/no tms+money who will want pokemon with your ability.

Else, this thread is for discussion and suggestion, if you think that some abilities are "unfair" comparing to anothers or they would make a pokemon "useless", then suggest a way to balance it, of course without easy ways such as donations (what would make donators even more rich than they are right now, and people who got no money in real life frustrated, that someone else can obtain things so easily)
Quest? No thank you, our pending list is very long and this wouldn't be possible this year.

Can't see Rock Head on the list but since we don't have many moves with recoil maybe adding it like this might help;

Rock Head: First super effective damge dealt to Pokémon is reduced by %30.
Activates only one time in duels.
Has a cooldown of 4 minutes in wild.

Pokémon with Rock Head: Geodude Graveler Golem Onix Cubone Marowak Alolan Marowak(only as a Hidden Ability) Rhyhorn Rhydon Aerodactyl Sudowoodo Aron Larion Aggron Relicanth Bagon Shelgon Bonsly Basculin(only Blue stripted form) and Tyrantrum(only as a Hidden Ability)

This whole system sound cool and i have few suggestions :
Overgrow : Powers up Grass-type moves when the Pokémon's HP is low. I think grass-type pokemons are little bit off pvp at this moment so i would suggest to make this boost a little better than Blaze.
Next ability would be nice also some kind of counter to existing ones for example : someone can pull his bronzong against rhyperior or some other poke cuz he's sure about that he got an levitate so he wont take any damage from ground type moves and then? He's getting his ass kicked cuz he was not aware of that.
Mold Breaker : Ignores the effects of Abilities that could potentially affect the damage or effects of a move that its user executes. For example, a Pokémon with Mold Breaker can hit opponents that possess Levitate by using Earthquake.
Well, maybe something that could use gender system that we already have?
Rivalry : When using a move, Rivalry raises the power of the move by 25% if the target and the Pokémon with this Ability have the same gender, but reduces base power by 25% if the target and the Pokémon with this Ability have opposite genders. If the Pokémon with this Ability or the target is genderless, the move's power is unaffected.
Unless the Pokémon is genderless, Rivalry powers up confusion damage.
Sounds good to me.

Can't see Sturdy on the list as well. In the real Pokémon games Sturdy protects the Pokémon from getting knocked out with a single hit. Since it is almost impossible in PA something like this may work;

Sturdy: Pokémon takes %5 less damage from super effective moves.

This is a continous effect just like Levitate so %5 seemed fair but it is open to discussions ofc.

Pokémon with Sturdy: Geodude, Graveler, Golem, Alolan Geodude, Alolan Graveler, Alolan Golem, Magnemite, Magneton, Magnezone, Onix, Steelix, Pineco, Forretress, Shuckle, Skarmory, Donphan, Nosepass, Probopass, Aron, Larion, Aggron, Relicanth(only as a Hidden Ability), Regirock(don't think it is necessary tho :p only as a Hidden Ability), Shieldon, Bastiodon, Bonsly, Sudowoodo, Roggenrola, Boldore, Gigalith, Sawk, Dwebble, Crustle, Tirtouga, Carracosta, Tyrunt(only as a Hidden Ability), Carbink(only as a Hidden Ability), Bergmite(only as a Hidden Ability), Avalugg(only as a Hidden ability), Togedemaru(only as a Hidden Ability) and Cosmoem(don't think it is necessary tho).

Also I have a suggestion for Hidden Abilities I mentioned. Pokémon with their Hidden Ability can be obtained from boxes and there is a %5 chance to find a Pokémon with it's Hidden Ability in wild(can be both tho).

Mold Breaker and Rivalry are on the list, however with smaller boost/nerf with a chance to increase. 25% is a bit too much though.
I will add Overgrow to the list. Thanks for your suggestion:D

Just two more to the list:
Cute Charm: Contact with the Pokémon may cause infatuation. So it could confuse a pokemon if he use contact move (once for duel). Pokemons that could have it Clefairy Clefable Jigglypuff Wigglytuff Cleffa Igglybuff Skitty Delcatty Milotic (as a hidden ability) Sylveon Stufful (as a hidden ability).

Fluffy: A Pokémon with Fluffy takes half damage(could be like 0.75) from moves that make contact. It also takes double damage from Fire-type moves(can be changed to like 1.5). Fire-type moves that make contact will deal regular damage(x1). It would be only for Bewear

Btw, this change will only apply to normal pokemons? or wild/bosses will be affected too, because in Alola region they added some abilities to Tapu's type (tapu lele, tapu fini, etc) like Electric Surge (covers the field with electricity increasing the speed and atk of the pokemon) Misty surge (covers the field with fairy energy increasing defense) etc xD

No, it will not apply to wild pokemons. About bosses - I don't know, maybe yes to make raids harder

Do you guys have something planed to Shedinja? Just asking, i know its a little complicated.

Wonder ward for shedinja: this will work like safeguard, prevents any not effective status condition like poison, sleep, paralisis by electricity or stun powder. Only burn and stuns by ghost type will work when this ability is activated. Cool down every 2 min in duel and 1 min in wild? xD

No, we don't plan anything for shedinja for now, for sure nothing related to preventing any damage, it has a lot of immunities already ;x

Another existing ability; Immunity. Pokémon with immunity can not be poisoned.

This is a continous effect. Poison type moves can deal damage but they can not poison the Pokémon with immunity.

Pokémon with Immunity; Snorlax, Gligar(only as a Hidden Ability) and Zangoose.

Another existing ability; Poison Heal. When poisoned, Pokémon with Poison Heal will heal itself instead of taking damage.

This is also a continous effect. Healing can be 25 HP/ps.

Pokémon with Poison Heal; Shroomish, Breloom and Gliscor(only as a Hidden Ability).

According to bulbapedia, thick fat gives 50% resistance against fire and ice, but in game is set to 20%.

Heatproof reduce fire dmg 50%.
Fur coat reduces melee dmg 50%
Water bubble reduces fire dmg 50%

So my suggestion is to set thick fat to reduce also 50%.
