Good explanation. Though I THINK you got the last part wrong.

I believe event's new rate would be:
Diamond: 1.5 * 2 = 3 (Event's catch rate) [Post says x2]
Platinum: 3 + 0.5 = 3.5 (Event's catch rate) [Post says +50%]

Though I agree with Huberto: "kinda pointless to split platinum./diamond event"

Also! It would be MUCH easier to just post the new catch rate. Mathematics are exact, however Percentages/Rates can be interpreted in more than 1 way.
