I had Magmar and don't like him. Charizard is good, but i prefer Arcanine. Its very good with some TM's like Lava Plume.

I actually think that Earthquake is better than Sandstorm thinking in a future rebalance. Sandstorm might be more useful right now, since it's hard to see Rock or Electric pokemons in PVP due to OP pokemons kingdom. But if you think in a future rebalance, then we (would like to) will see more Charizards in PVP and of course more Rock and Electric pokemons, wich could be a good counter for that Zard. Still, if the owner is skilled enough, a simple mistake from the electric/rock pokemon can drive em to death (reflecting an electric storm/falling rocks for example + Earthquake).
Also another good thing about Zard with Earthquake is the fact that Charizard is Flying type, so if they try to use Reflect against Charizard's earthquake, it won't reflect damage anyways, since zard is immune to ground attacks.

But with the new patch with magmortar it wont be better have a magmar?

Well you need to have pro evolution item to get the evolve item of magmar it's 20 % chance you get it from there. So you need like 5 minimum to be totally sure to get it and still you can be unlucky and not have it.

Well Magmortar could be better with fire attacks maybe (probably), but Charizard is still also Flying, so it will have an adventage from Magmortar anyways: Immune to ground. So no earthquake would kill Charizard, never ever =P

No but rock attacks hit extra hard on zard, magmortar doesn't have this problem xd

Every poke has weakness points, so the strategy depends in the way you want to cover those debilities ;)
